Nitendra Singh Rawat is an Indian marathon runner who won the Delhi Marathon Race in March of this year, finishing in two hours, sixteen minutes and five seconds. He will now perform his tricks on the streets of Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games.

Career and Achievements 

Nitender Rawat, 35, is a seasoned marathon runner. He is pleased to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and hopes to perform well. He is presently 644th in the men’s marathon standings. Throughout the pandemic, Rawat has worked relentlessly to regain his fitness and compete on the world stage once more.

On February 12, 2016, Nitendra Rawat made his debut by winning gold at the South Asian Games in Guwahati. He didn’t stop there; he was one of just three competitors to qualify for the marathon race at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He finished the race in 2:22:52 at the 2016 Rio Olympics, although a hamstring injury forced him to finish 84th.

Rawat quickly put it all behind him and began concentrating on improving his timing. Injuries plagued Rawat for much of 2017 and 2018, making it difficult for him to compete in key competitions. Rawat made his comeback in the famous London Marathon in April, displaying his metal. The Indian runner finished 31st in a highly tough race in Boston in 2021, clocking two hours and 22 minutes. In the Mumbai marathon, he finished at 2:15:48, breaking his idol Ram Singh’s time of 2:16.

He hopes to break Shivnath Singh’s national record of 2:12.00 set 38 years ago.

Nitendra finished 84th in the event after a poor performance in Rio in 2016. Nitendra’s main complaint was the lack of amenities available to him. Despite qualifying for the Rio Olympics in 2016, Nitendra was unable to practice due to a lack of training facilities, thus the 32-year-old was forced to train at home in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand.

Other athletes received their training at the national base in Patiala or at their multi-facilitated personal training center. However, following his injury in the Olympics, he was never called up to the national team. Despite finishing second in the Mumbai Marathon, Nitendra Rawat was passed over for both the Commonwealth and Asian Games in 2018. Nitendra was inundated with hate letters following his poor performance at the Rio Olympics, which was extremely traumatic for him.
