Michelle Kwan Career Highlights

Michelle Kwan dominating the 1998 Winter Olympics, capturing a silver medal in the “Ladies Singles” event. She appeared to be the next great thing in the world of sports at the moment. She then took a break from the spotlight when injuries appeared to have destroyed her career.

Michelle Kwan decided she wanted to be a professional figure skater while watching the 1988 Winter Olympics. At the moment, she was seven years old. Michelle Kwan, despite her youth, was enthusiastic about turning her passion into a career. She even established a goal of becoming an Olympic figure skater, putting her at the peak of her sport. Kwan would go through years of training before becoming a professional athlete. She didn’t understand it at the time, but getting pro and competing in the Olympics required more than writing her name on a piece of paper. Michelle Kwan discovered one thing as she practised and rose through the levels of figure skating: there wasn’t a lot of money to be gained. Kwan’s parents had to find a means to pay for new equipment in order to keep her aspirations alive, which wasn’t always easy. Michelle Kwan was 12 years old when she hit a turning point in her career. She competed at the senior level of her sport and finished second in the 1994 World Championships. Then she was on the path to making the life-altering decision to leave.

Kwan participated in the United States Championship a year after winning the championship, finishing second. After three years, she would be able to realise her ambition of competing in the Olympic Games. Michelle Kwan and her mother began travelling the world when she was 12 years old in order for her to compete in figure skating contests. Kwan’s devotion and hard work paid off when she qualified for the Winter Olympics in 1998. The contests would be among her career’s highlights. She was finally living her dream, and she believed she belonged after winning many competitions. What she didn’t realise was that there were still plenty of obstacles in her way. Michelle Kwan and Tara Lipinski became rivals in the run-up to the 1998 Olympics. The only issue was that the competition was entirely created by the media. Lipinski was never seen as a competitor by Kwan. Lipinski and Kwan were viewed as rivals by the media since they were both at the top of their fields. Kwan had already underlined her supremacy over Lipinski throughout the figure skating season.

Lipinksi, on the other hand, defeated Kwan to win gold in the Olympics. The judges’ reasoning for the change was that Lipinski made fewer technical errors and had a more difficult routine. Even if it was one of the best, this would not be the last time these two competitors squared off! Kwan’s silver medal performance in the 1998 Winter Olympics was profitable. Vera Wang, a fashion icon, made a contract with the budding artist thanks to her international visibility. Kwan would skate in tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of outfits from then on.

Kwan’s reputation would skyrocket if she looked her best, since young people would perceive her as both an athlete and a fashion trailblazer. With so many aspects of her life shifting, the athlete had no choice but to concentrate on the 2002 Olympic Games. Michelle Kwan had just one objective in mind as the 2002 Olympic Games approached: to win a gold medal. She earned two silver medals in 1998, but was unable to win the top award and was thus disqualified. Kwan, who was far into her twenties at the time, was set to compete in her final Olympics in 2002. Her physique would be unlikely to stand up for another four years, given how young she began exercising.

Kwan’s performance, despite its flaws, was good enough to earn her a bronze medal. Kwan, as disappointed as she was, has already set her eyes on winning a gold medal in 2006. Kwan resumed to training after deciding to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, she sustained a hip ailment that necessitated surgery at this time. She was compelled to take a hiatus from training and skating as a result of this.

Kwan opted to concentrate on her schooling after being unable to pursue what she liked. In 2006, she dropped out of Olympic qualification and applied to attend the University of Denver in Colorado. Kwan is a member of the Committee of 100, a Chinese-American group, as of 2008. Kwan joins Fox Sports 1 in 2014 to broadcast the Winter Olympics.
