‘Inventing Anna’ by Julia Garner: Everything You Need to Know About the Anna Delvey Netflix Series

The Release Date

The Netflix show’s production, which was initially scheduled to begin in 2021, was pushed back owing to the COVID-19 epidemic. The 10-episode series is scheduled to premiere in February 2022.

The Cast

Garner, a two-time Emmy winner, plays Anna, who is characterised as “a young lady in her mid-20s with a difficult-to-place European accent who takes New York by storm” and leaves “an emotional body count” in her wake.

Anna Chlumsky, who portrays Vivian on Veep, is a reporter seeking for her big break – and sees it in Anna. The cast also features Laverne Cox from Orange is the New Black, Scandal’s Katie Lowes, Arian Moayed from Succession, Alexis Floyd from The Bold Type, Anders Holm from The Intern, Anna Deavere Smith from The West Wing, and Terry Kinney from Oz.

It’s a Shondaland creation.

Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy, created and produced Inventing Anna with her Shondaland partner, Betsy Beers. The pilot was directed by David Frankel, who also directed The Devil Wears Prada.

What’s the Story of the Series?

Inventing Anna is based on Jessica Pressler’s 2018 New York magazine piece, which also inspired Jennifer Lopez’s 2019 film Hustlers.

Pressler’s piece examined how Delvey mislead so many influential persons into thinking she was German royalty. “But is Anna New York’s largest con woman, or is she simply the new image of the American dream?” the official logline of the Netflix programme questions.

The series will look into the “dark humorous love-hate friendship” that Anna (Garner) and Vivian (Chlumsky) establish in the midst of their relationship.

The First Impressions

In October 2021, Netflix revealed the first photographs from the true-crime thriller, which included Garner in costume as the primary character.

Anna at Action

In November 2021, Netflix published the first teaser for the series and announced that it will launch on February 11, 2022. “People, get ready,” Rhimes tweeted, accompanied with many photographs from the teaser.

The Movie Trailer

“Everything in this narrative is real. “Except for all of the portions that are completely made up,” said a description for the official YouTube teaser in January 2022, weeks before the series’ streaming launch. The film concentrates on media coverage of Delvey’s court struggle, as everyone became captivated by her ordeal.

More bizarre than fiction! The Netflix series Inventing Anna is around Anna Delvey, a legendary scam artist who fooled New York City’s wealthy out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

In 2018, New York magazine released an article on the Russian native, who pretended to be a wealthy German heiress with a $67 million trust fund in the mid-2010s in order to join the city’s most affluent neighbourhoods.

The scam artist, whose actual name is Anna Sorokin, attempted to acquire funds for a luxury art club she planned to create. Ultimately, she cheated her friends and New York companies out of a total of $275,000 over a 10-month period.

The Netflix television series based on the classic article will investigate how the European got away with her earn scheme for so long — and how she was caught. Julia Garner, from Ozark, was cast in the lead role.

Delvey was convicted of four charges of stealing services, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of attempted grand larceny by a Manhattan jury in April 2019. Following a month-long trial in which she requested the help of a stylist to maintain her beautiful appearance in court, she was sentenced to a minimum of four years in jail in May. Delvey’s sentencing judge stated that she was “stunned by the extent of the defendant’s fraud” and that the scam artist was “blinded by the glitter and beauty of the accused.”

Delvey told The New York Times at the time of her conviction, “The point is, I’m not sorry.” If I claimed I was sorry about anything, I’d be lying to you, everyone else, and myself.”

“I regret the way I went about some things,” she said to the newspaper. My motivation was never monetary… “I was desperate for power.”

Delvey was freed in February 2021 after almost two years in a New York state jail, and she promptly returned to Instagram to let her fans know she was “working on a little something” special for them.

Her comment social media activity put her in the hands of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in April 2021, with law enforcement saying that her Instagram post demonstrated a lack of contrition for her actions. At the time, she was facing deportation.

Delvey, on the other hand, is looking forward to “trying to rewrite my storey,” she told ABC News in September 2021, adding, “I would like to show the world that I’m not this ignorant, selfish person that they depicted me to be.”
